Field report: Flying with Copa Airlines from Panama City to Cartagena

Flying with Copa Airlines

Now we’ve already tested American Airlines, CM Airlines, Cayman Airways and Eurowings for you. Now it was time to book a whole new airline since it went from Panama for us further to Colombia. There are only two ways to get from Panama to Colombia, despite the existing land bridge. Either one takes the boat or the airplane. We decided here for the airplane since it is simply fastest and could bring us directly to Cartagena.

Our flight just before boarding

Booking with Copa Airlines

We booked the flight a few days before for 146 euros per person. The route is about always in the same price range and therefore, unfortunately, you could not save much money here. We found the cheapest flight via Kiwi.de – here you can integrate several variables to find the cheapest flight.

We paid via our credit card which worked without any problem and any other security issues!

The check-in with Copa Airlines

As always, we were on time at the airport for this international flight. There were a few check in counters as well as a self check in ready. We decided to make the Self Check In since one had here so many empty counters and thus no waiting time.

For this, we entered our reservation number and last name and our reservation was found. Now all we had to do was scan Martina’s and my passports and how many check in bags we had. Carry on bags were not asked.

What we also found very pleasant was the fact that no further fees were due for the luggage – it was possible up to 2 pieces of luggage (checked) per passenger free of charge! Very pleasant!

After we had printed out the baggage tags and our Backpacks with it had stuck we gave the luggage directly at the counter (also without queuing) and went through security.

Check-in with Copa Airlines was very pleasant, well organized and stress-free!

The flight from Panama City to Cartagena

Boarding at the International Airport of Panama City started 20 minutes later than it was supposed to. But the boarding was also, as so often, done relatively quickly since all passengers were divided into groups and thus the whole event was very organized.

pleasant amount of legroom!

We took off on time at 11:20 am on flight CM 686 with Copa Airlines. The aircraft was a  Boeing 737-800. Board entertainment was not available and the aircraft was aging, though clean and well maintained.

As you can see the plane is a bit older!

During the flight there werefree drinks and a small sandwich. For Martina whois a vegetarian there was no choice.Meant a sandwich with ham and cheese more for Max.

The “holy” Copa Airlines sandwich

After we were in the air for about45 minutes and the announcements were made in Spanish and English, we were also on approach to Cartagena.

A positive experience – flying with Copa Airlines

To admit we had no special expectations for our flight to Colombia, but with Copa Airlines we would fly again, because the price-performance ratio is ok, the check-in and boarding were very well organized and there were snacks during the flight.

Of course, the airline is not as great an airline as, for example, American Airlines but with a Eurowings can definitely keep up.
